ThePossessionReport
The Possession Report partners with college basketball programs to strengthen their basketball intelligence through one certified possession-based platform.
Every report is built from the same possession engine, giving coaches, players, and staff one source of truth for evaluating performance, preparing for opponents, and improving throughout the season.
From Game Recaps and Scouting Reports to Season Evaluations, Player Pages, and Team Locker access, every product works together as one Basketball Intelligence Platform designed to help programs prepare smarter, communicate better, and win more games.
Who handles basketball intelligence in your program?
In most programs it is scattered — an assistant builds the scout, video cuts the film, somebody pulls numbers on a laptop, and none of it lives in one place or speaks one language.
Scattered
One certified platform
Analytics tell you what happened. Intelligence tells you what it was worth — and what to do about it.
But the real difference isn’t the spreadsheet. It’s the room. Scattered files never made a team smarter — a scout on one laptop, numbers in a text, a PDF nobody opened. Inside the Team Locker your whole program reads from one certified record: the staff, the players, before the game and after it, on every phone.
The games are battles. Intelligence wins the war. The programs pulling away are the ones sharing what they know — where the possessions went, who produced, what to fix today — and every one of them knows it at the same time.
Pick your game.
Same certified engine top to bottom — what changes is the film it reads and the room it reports to. Every program has its own door.
We don’t deal in opinions.
We deal in possessions.
Every player and every team is measured on one thing — what they did with the possessions and the minutes they had. Not reputation. Not the eye test. Not who’s on the poster.
So yes — a household name can land near the bottom, and a role player can top the chart. We’re not ranking talent or hype. We’re measuring what happened on the floor, possession by possession. The numbers fall where they fall — and the data don’t lie.

Where the game
gets studied.
Coaches, staffs, and players don’t need more numbers — they need the right ones, possession by possession. That’s the report.
The Team Locker
Intelligence one assistant keeps on a laptop is a file. It becomes intelligence when the staff and the roster all have it and can talk about it. That is what the Locker is for.
One package. The whole season.
Everything your program needs for twelve months, delivered into your Team Locker.
Three real reports. Open any of them.
Every one is a real certified report from the 2025-26 season. Nothing is a mock-up.
Accepted partners can introduce the next program.
Your program already talks to the staffs who need this. The Fundraising Program turns that conversation into recurring revenue for your program — paid every month for up to 24 months on each program you introduce, at a flat 25%, one level.
We’re offering the Partnership Program to organizations joining us now and helping us grow organically. Enrollment is limited and may close to new participants at any time.
Organizations accepted before enrollment closes remain in the program while in good standing and may keep introducing new subscribers. Every qualifying referral earns 25% on eligible subscription revenue actually collected, for up to 24 months, beginning with that referred subscriber’s first successful payment.
Subscribers joining after enrollment closes may still purchase and use the platform, but may not be eligible to take part in the Partnership Program.
FirstPromoter manages registration, referral links, marketing materials, performance, commissions and payouts in a separate secure partner dashboard opened from the locker. Money is only generated when a real customer buys and pays for a subscription — nobody is paid for recruiting. Commissions adjust for refunds, cancellations and changes of plan. Payment is made to the organization on a completed W‑9.
Built by a coach. For coaches.
The box score tells you what happened. The Possession Report tells you why.
The mission
Every staff deserves film-room intelligence on every possession — not just a stat line. We turn the official play-by-play of any game into a clear, print-clean story of where it was won, where it was lost, and what to fix next.
The engine
It runs on PBiR — the PlayBack Intelligence Report. We log every possession and grade 13 recorded basketball actions to measure each player’s and team’s true impact, then layer on possession efficiency and the Efficiency Thermometer. The number doesn’t lie.
Who built it
The Possession Report was founded and built by Herman Johnson Jr. — a New Jersey basketball lifer. He spent three years at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City under Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley, three years at St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth under Kevin Boyle, and seven seasons as head coach at Northern Burlington County Regional High School in Columbus, New Jersey — where he coached his son Jayson Johnson, now a marketing manager with New Balance. He also coached with SportsU, one of the top AAU programs in New Jersey and the country. He’s the father of Matt Johnson — a two-time national champion at UConn, who coached a season at Princeton and is now an assistant coach at Boston College. He built PBiR to put real possession-level intelligence in every coach’s hands.
The PBiR argument, in Coach Johnson’s own words.
Why we measure efficiency — possession by possession — and what it means for your program. Press play.
Growth doesn’t happen without it. Success doesn’t happen without it. Winning doesn’t happen without it.
Apply these 8 Principles of P.R.E.S.S.U.R.E. and learn how to turn pressure into confidence, confidence into performance, and performance into winning.
Perseverance
Disciplined endurance. Stay in the work when the scoreboard hasn’t rewarded it yet — and keep moving without applause.
Resilience
Recovery, not toughness. Lose the game, keep the identity. How you respond after the loss is the whole thing.
Emotions
Pressure doesn’t create emotion — it uncovers it. Coach the player, not just the moment. Awareness under pressure is leadership.
Sacrifice
The currency of responsibility. Every run, every win costs something. Know what you’re spending, and for whom.
Strength
Real strength is restraint. It’s holding your standard, and your values, when the load climbs — not getting hardened by it.
Unity
Pressure isolates by default. It tells a player they’re alone. Unity builds bridges in that locker room, not walls.
Responsibility
Own the possession, own the program. No passing the weight down the bench. The buck stops on your clipboard.
Example
They don’t do what you say — they do what you do. Under pressure, your players become a mirror of you.
Ask a question of the record.
Inside the Basketball Intelligence Program, the certified record answers questions like these — a player, a matchup, a stretch of games. If it happened on the floor, PBiR can answer it.
- ▸ A statistical breakdown of any single game
- ▸ A PBiR report on an individual player
- ▸ A player’s full season — or just in‑conference or out‑of‑conference
- ▸ Head‑to‑head: one player against another
- ▸ An NIL valuation report
- ▸ NEW — The Portal Intake Report: every transfer your program signed — their full previous season, certified through the engine. Know exactly what you bought before the first practice
- ▸ Your player vs. the top 10 at his position in a conference — with a PBiR score on where he stacks up
Included in the Basketball Intelligence Program — $999 a month, everything above, up to 20 coaches and players. Cancel any time.
